Lost or Damaged Emirates ID: UAE Replacement Steps, Fees and Timing

UAE resident using a phone to apply for replacement of a lost or damaged Emirates ID

Losing an Emirates ID creates two separate tasks: protect the identity document from misuse and apply for a replacement through an official channel. A damaged card should also be replaced when it can no longer be used properly. The replacement keeps the original card’s remaining validity; it is not a renewal that adds a new residency period.

ICP’s official lost or damaged ID replacement service lists the digital steps, channels, documents, fees and completion information. At publication, it lists AED 300 for replacement, AED 100 smart-service fees and an optional AED 150 urgent-service fee at an ICP service centre. Check the live service card before paying because requirements and fees can change.

Choose the correct service

Situation Correct action Important point
Card lost Report and apply for lost-card replacement Do not wait for expiry
Card stolen Report the circumstances and replace it Keep police or ICP references
Card physically damaged Apply for damaged-card replacement Keep the card for surrender if requested
Card expired Use the renewal process Replacement does not extend validity
Personal data changed Use the relevant data-update service Do not treat it as simple damage

ICP states that the new card is issued with the same validity period as the lost or damaged one. If the existing card is close to expiry, ask ICP whether renewal or a linked process is more appropriate before submitting and paying twice.

Replacement checklist

  • Use only the ICP website, UAEICP app or an authorised service channel.
  • Prepare a clear passport copy and compliant personal photograph.
  • Keep proof of UAE residence where required.
  • Enter the ID number and contact details accurately.
  • Review the delivery address before payment.
  • Save the application and payment reference.
  • Update services that relied on the old physical card after replacement.

Apply through an official channel

ICP lists its smart-services website, smart app, authorised typing offices and customer happiness centres. The urgent option requires an in-person service-centre visit. The standard card is delivered through the authorised courier; urgent cards are collected from the authority’s centres according to the service instructions.

The UAE product-recall guide shows the same official-channel verification habit for a different public service. If the missing ID was inside a lost wallet or phone case, the lost-phone guide covers SIM, email and account protection.

Understand the documents and biometrics

The service card lists a personal photograph and passport, with proof of UAE residence for applicable applicants. ICP says anyone aged 15 or older may need fingerprint and signature procedures through its centres. Do not upload an edited photograph or a blurred passport scan; use the current image standards shown by ICP.

Keep the replacement application separate from a residence-visa cancellation or renewal. The Dubai police-clearance guide is another identity-document process that should remain in its own file, while the official-channel verification example shows why forwarded links should not be trusted.

Protect yourself from impersonation

A lost identity card can be used in social-engineering attempts. Monitor important accounts and reject callers asking for a UAE Pass approval, OTP or banking password to “block” the card. Open the official app yourself rather than using a link from an unsolicited message. Keep the case reference but do not post the ID image publicly.

The Dubai scam-safety guide explains verification habits. The Dubai household emergency-file guide helps store redacted copies and reference numbers securely for future incidents.

Track delivery and check the new card

Use ICP’s application tracking with the official application number. When the replacement arrives, check the printed identity details and ensure the card is intact. Update any organisation that recorded the old physical card only when necessary; your identity number normally remains the same, but a bank, employer or service may need the new card scan or expiry information.

If the original card is found after replacement, do not continue using it. Ask ICP how it should be surrendered or destroyed. A found card belonging to someone else should be handed to an ICP service point or police station rather than photographed or posted online. The UAE emergency-numbers guide distinguishes urgent police contact from ordinary service enquiries.
